Humility
Living with a Christlike attitude of service.
“3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.”
Philippians 2:3–8, KJV
Jesus gave us the perfect example in humility:
He made himself of no reputation, took on the likeness of men, and then proceeded to serve others.
He humbled himself and was obedient unto death.
This is exactly the kind of Christian character that we are to cultivate.
We should put others before ourselves, and to find ways to serve others.
And if the situation calls for it, obey God’s word - even unto death.
Easier said than done, but it is doable.
The first step to take is to humble ourselves:
“But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.”
James 4:6, KJV
We can not be prideful.
We must be humble (James 4:10).
How can we serve others if we’re too proud to do so?
To genuinely serve others, we must be humble ourselves.
You might be wondering, okay I get that, but how do I humble myself?
One of the ways king David humbled himself was through fasting (Psalms 35:13).
It is not the only way to humble ourselves, but it is one of the most prominent ways to do so if you follow the biblical example.
I recommend you at least think about it.
Then we have this verse from the book of Micah:
“He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?”
Micah 6:8, KJV
We know what is good: to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with our God.
So, let’s focus on doing just that.
I hope you were blessed by today’s message.
May you have a wonderful rest of your day.
Reflection:
In what situations do you find it most challenging to put others before yourself?
How can practicing humility in daily life help strengthen your relationships with family, friends, or co-workers?
Prayer Suggestion
“Lord Jesus, You showed the greatest example of humility by serving and giving Your life for others. Teach me to walk in that same spirit of humility. Help me to put others first, to serve with love, and to honour You in all I do. Amen.”
