“Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.”
Matthew 5:6, KJV
Those who hunger and thirst after righteousness are blessed.
Pursuing righteousness is a duty for every Christian.
As it is written:
“Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.”
2 Timothy 2:22, KJV
And following righteousness produces even more righteousness:
“He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honour.”
Proverbs 21:21, KJV
We are to pursue righteousness for the prize of our high calling:
“I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 3:14, KJV
Reflection Questions
Do I genuinely hunger and thirst for righteousness, or am I more satisfied with worldly comfort and distractions?
In what specific areas of my life is God calling me to pursue greater obedience, purity, or faithfulness?
What habits or influences are helping me grow in righteousness, and which ones are holding me back?
Example Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for calling me to hunger and thirst after righteousness. I confess that at times my desires are divided, and I am easily satisfied with things that do not draw me closer to You. Create in me a deeper longing for what is holy, pure, and pleasing in Your sight.
Lord, help me to flee from sin and to pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace with a sincere heart. Strengthen me to press toward the mark of my high calling in Christ Jesus, not growing weary in the journey but trusting that You will fill me as You have promised.
Shape my thoughts, desires, and actions so that my life reflects Your righteousness. Lead me in paths that produce spiritual growth, and surround me with influences that draw me nearer to You.
I trust You to satisfy the deepest hunger of my soul.
In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray, Amen.
