Prayer
Talking with God

“6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:6–7, KJV
Prayer is an important part of any Christian’s life.
To pray is akin to breathing - it must be done, or we perish.
In the book of Philippians we also learn that our prayer and supplication should come together with thanksgiving, which is a point forgotten by many.
Let’s all focus on being thankful despite our circumstances.
Blessings will follow.
Now, when it comes to prayer, Jesus gave us an example:
“9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.”
Matthew 6:9–13, KJV
The Lord’s prayer really is the perfect prayer.
It focuses on our heavenly Father first and foremost, and asks only that he supplies our needs for this day.
In this prayer forgiveness is also being asked as well as protection from evil.
How often are these points forgotten in prayers?
I do not know the exact answer, but our prayers should certainly sound more than just shopping lists filled with “give me this and that, thank you, and bye.”
Let us focus on improving our daily prayers through these verses.
And let’s not forget this last verse:
“Pray without ceasing.”
1 Thessalonians 5:17, KJV
We are to pray without ceasing.
We often forget to pray or we simply do not spend enough time praying throughout the day.
Let’s change that and spend more time with God in prayer.
It the least we can do.
And it also happens to be of great benefit to us.
I hope this message has blessed you today.
Reflection:
What role does prayer play in your daily life?
How can prayer bring peace during stressful times?
Prayer Suggestion
Heavenly Father, thank You that I can come before You in prayer at all times. Teach me to bring my requests to You with a thankful heart. Guard my mind with Your peace when I feel anxious, and help me to trust that You know what I need. Remind me to seek Your will above my own, to forgive others as I have been forgiven, and to walk in Your protection each day. I ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
