The 2nd Commandment
Say No to Graven Images

“Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.”
Exodus 20:4, KJV
This verse above is the second commandment.
We are not to make for ourselves any graven image of anything that is in heaven, in the earth beneath or in the water under the earth.
This is what we are commanded to do (or not do, to be specific).
And yet, it is exactly what we see happening all around the world.
All kinds of graven images can be seen everywhere in the world, and especially so in many of the churches today.
There is an explanation to this, and it is quite an easy one to explain:
Not everyone is a Christian.
That explains most of the graven images around the world… but what about the Christian world?
The explanation can be found in the Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church, where it says the second commandment is as follows:
“Article 2 The Second Commandment
THE SECOND COMMANDMENT
You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.72
You have heard that it was said to the men of old, "You shall not swear falsely. . But I say to you, Do not swear at all.73”

You see, the Roman Catholic Church changed the Ten Commandments to be something that they are not.
Not all of the commandments got changed, but this is a major one.
This change “allowed” them to create graven images, because according to them, commandment about not doing so doesn’t exist.
And you’d be quite surprised, I’m sure, to know how many other churches (including protestant churches) actually follow what the Roman Catholic Church says over what the Bible says.
There are other problems with the teaching of the Roman Catholic Church, such as venerating Mary and allowing her to play the role of a mediatrix, which the Bible does not teach.
This is what the Bible teaches:
“For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;”
1 Timothy 2:5, KJV
They seem call themselves Christian, yet they do not follow what the Bible says in their doctrine.
And if you study history, you will learn that America was founded by people who wanted to escape the religious persecution done by the Catholic Church in Europe at the time.
If you didn’t follow the teaching of the Roman Catholic Church, you were considered a heretic.
Look what they did to Martin Luther or someone like William Tyndale.
Thinking for yourself, or wanting to follow the Bible as it is written, was a major problem for the Roman Catholic Church.
And it seems they haven’t fully changed their mind from this way of thinking, even today, considering they still do not wish to follow what the Bible says - most prominently the second and fourth commandment.
But to each their own.
Once again, I recommend you watch Total Onslaught video series by Walter Veith to learn more.
With all that being said, I hope you’ve been blessed by today’s message.
I wish you a wonderful rest of your day.
